Rough Night in St. Paul
It was yet another rough game for the Blackhawks on Tuesday night as they blew a 3-0 lead to the Minnesota Wild. Chicago was looking good with goals by Teuvo Teravainen, Ryan Donato, and Ilya Mikheyev until Minnesota came back.
It all started with a goal from Yakov Trenin in the 2nd period, then in the 3rd Joel Eriksson Ek and Jared Spurgeon had tied it all up at 3-3. The game then went into overtime and with no score they went into the shootout. After 3 rounds in the shootout Minnesota had the lone goal by Kirill Kaprizov taking the game by the score of 4-3.
Wyatt Kaiser who’s arguably been the best defensive defenseman the hawks have had this year didn’t have a great night against the Wild being a -2. Since 2019 the Blackhawks have struggled in the state of hockey having 9 straight losses in Minnesota. The next game at the time of writing this for Chicago is against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, February 1st.
Checking on the roster
Right before the game against the Minnesota Wild the Blackhawks assigned rookie Nick Lardis back to the Rockford Icehogs after 21 games in the NHL. Lardis was originally called up after Connor Bedard had injured his shoulder, providing 5 goals and 2 assists in his time with Chicago.
Once Bedard became healthy again, along with Teuvo Teravainen and Frank Nazar coming back from injuries there was no room for Lardis at this point leaving Rockford as the only choice. With his time as an IceHog Nick Lardis has recorded 26 points in 24 games this season with 13 goals and 13 assists.
There’s been one player who’s really stood out to me this season that is Tyler Bertuzzi. When the hawks are in need of a big goal or just one to get something going Bert has always been right in there in the crease waiting for a back door goal. Bertuzzi currently has 25 goals and 14 assists for a total of 39 points making him 2nd in points leaders for the Blackhawks.
An Dld Friend Making History
On Tuesday, January 27th former Blackhawk and all-time great Patrick Kane of the Detroit Red Wings made history yet again. In a 3-1 loss against the Los Angeles Kings the lone goal scorer for Detroit was Alex Debrincat but this wasn’t any normal Kane and Cat goal.
With that goal and Patrick Kane getting the assist on it he has tied Mike Modano for the most NHL points all-time by an American born player with 1,374 career points. Yet another impeccable achievement by showtime as earlier this season he scored his 499th and 500th career goal on January 8th against the Vancouver Canucks.
Kane has been no stranger to achievements in his historic career as he is a 3x Stanley Cup champion, an Art Ross trophy winner, a Calder Memorial trophy winner, a Conn Smythe trophy as well as a Hart trophy winner and Ted Lindsay award winner. On top of it all he also made the NHL all-star game 8 times and was part of the NHL’s 100 greatest players list. If that isn’t first ballot Hall of Fame worth then I don’t know what is.
And as always— Let’s Go Hawks!
