The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers are set to face off in yet another historic matchup between two of the NFL’s bitterest rivals. Heading into Saturday night’s playoff showdown, the Bears stand at 11–6 after winning the NFC North, while Green Bay enters at 9–7–1, sneaking into the postseason as the seventh seed.
The last time these two teams met, fans were treated to an overtime thriller, with Chicago prevailing 22–16. Quarterback Caleb Williams delivered a strong performance, finishing 19-of-34 for 250 yards. Williams, who set the Bears’ single-season passing record with 3,942 yards, has now split his four career matchups against Green Bay at 2–2.
On the other side, Packers quarterback Jordan Love was forced out of that game in the second quarter after suffering a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit from Austin Booker. Green Bay was already shorthanded, missing star defender Micah Parsons due to a season-ending injury, and losing Love only added to the challenge.
Backup quarterback Malik Willis stepped in and performed efficiently, completing 9 of 11 passes for 121 yards. However, one costly mistake proved decisive. In overtime, Willis fumbled the snap, and the Bears recovered the ball at the Green Bay 36-yard line.
That set the stage for a dramatic finish. Wide receiver DJ Moore delivered the walk-off moment, hauling in a 46-yard touchdown while being covered by Keisean Nixon. Moore later leaned into the rivalry during the postgame celebration, wearing a foam cheese-grater head as a playful jab at Green Bay.
In overtime, WR DJ Moore got his revenge on CB Keisean Nixon who gave Moore a dirty hit in the open field during the game. Caleb Williams threw a 46-yard touchdown to DJ Moore who was being covered by Nixon on that same play. After the game in the post-game celebration, DJ Moore was seen with a cheese grater foam head poking more fun into the rivalry with Green Bay.
We can anticipate that it will be another classic matchup of Bears and Packers, previewing what’s to come on Saturday night. With Jordan Love coming back for Saturday’s game is a big help for Green Bay but they aren’t the only ones with a player coming back as CB Kyler Gordon is set to return for Chicago on Saturday after suffering a groin injury. These personnel issues and tight finishes have fans on edge heading into Saturday.
Packer fan Mr. Gatton says the nerves are already setting in.
“I’m obviously excited, but I’m also very nervous,” Gatton said. “The Packers have nothing to lose being the lower seed, but living in Illinois as a Packer fan, I get razzed constantly. From a personal standpoint, I just want them to win so I can stop getting razzed.”
Gatton also noted the rarity of the moment, pointing out that this marks only the third playoff meeting between the two franchises.
“I really can’t expect anything different than a close game,” he said. “The last four or five games they’ve played have come down to the final play.”
From the Bears’ side, longtime fan Mr. Lythberg sees the matchup as a reflection of the franchise’s growth.
“At first, I was really nervous about the Bears losing and heading into an offseason full of questions,” Lythberg said. “But the more I think about where this team is, I’m just really happy. Ben Johnson completely turned this team around in year one. I never thought they’d win the NFC North and host a playoff game.”
Lythberg believes familiarity will dictate the outcome.
“This is the third time they’ve played, so both teams will be prepared,” he said. “Every mistake will be magnified. The team that plays the cleanest game—penalties and turnovers—is going to win.”
Oak Forest senior Nick Manso echoed the excitement surrounding the matchup.
“You don’t get to see this rivalry in the playoffs very often,” Nick said. “With how good the games have been this season, there’s so much to look forward to.”
Nick also pointed to returning players as a major storyline, including Love and rookie receiver Rome Odunze, adding even more intrigue to the matchup.
Saturday’s game is set for 7:00 p.m. at Soldier Field, marking the Bears’ first home playoff game since 2018—a year still remembered painfully by Chicago fans.
In the 2018 NFC Wild Card round, the Bears fell to the Philadelphia Eagles on the infamous “double doink” by Cody Parkey, losing 16–15.
Both teams enter Saturday off back-to-back losses, each looking to regain momentum and keep their season alive. With pride, history, and playoff survival at stake, another classic chapter in the Bears–Packers rivalry appears inevitable.
Once again, the Bears and Packers will clash in the NFC Wild Card round on Saturday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m.
As always—Go Bengals and Bear Down.
