Over the weekend of December 9-10, Oak Forest High School’s Madrigal show took place. The Madrigal show is a Renaissance Christmas musical that showcases the Queen and King, many nobles, a knight, a jester, and the ladies in waiting. However, behind the scenes of this wonderful show are the volunteer servers.
The servers help turn the musical into a show by helping with the dinner. The servers’ duties are simple: bring food out, and bring dishes in. Throughout the show, they will bring food to tables, check on their table for any refills, and take away the dirty dishes and garbage. The servers don’t work alone. Each table gets two people to serve them, so servers get a partner to help with everything.
One can gain many things from being a server in the Madrigals show. Communication skills, social skills, service hours, and a bit of experience waiting tables come from being a server. One can work with guests to improve communication skills, and one can interact with the table to improve social skills. This will also get a student serving experience if that is a job that they are looking for. There are also four hours of service for every day you serve; this is useful if students are in any club or activity that requires service hours.
One of the servers said, “I would totally recommend serving for Madrigals. It was super fun and I had a good time there. I think a lot of people would enjoy it and have a fun time while getting some experience with working as a server as well.” Overall, being a server for Madrigals is fun, helpful to the server and the school, and provides a great experience all around.
