Oak Forest Basketball Programs Put an Exclamation Point on Winter Sports Season

Hardi Soni, Staff Writer

While winter sports are coming to an end soon, the basketball season for both boys and girls has been fantastic. The girls’ varsity basketball team, as well as JV, is doing amazing things, and even COVID restrictions couldn’t stop them from being fantastic. The fact that March is women’s history month only further highlights the achievements of the girls’ basketball team. Girls’ varsity basketball has lost only one game this entire season. They have won 12 games out of 13 and eight in a row. The JV team is not doing so badly, either. They have been dominating some of the opposition. Against Bremen, the JV side won 71-23.  There was a game against Eisenhower that they won 78-28 and another against TF North that they won 79-19.

I spoke to two amazing varsity players, Kayla Mantia and Emily Malloy. Mantia said that her favorite memory was “[winning in] overtime to clinch our conference championship this year.” She was upset to miss out on trips and tournaments. Malloy said that her favorite memory was “ going to eat together at Buffalo Wild Wings after a big game.” She said that she missed the postseason because of COVID. As for her inspirations, Jimmy Butler and her parents encouraged her to play basketball.

The boys’ basketball season is going great as well. They have also won 12 games (with only two losses), and the team won some of its games by 25-50 points, including a recent win over Tinley, 85-35. As we see spring sports coming, we are just as excited for the school. Go Bengals!
