As you have probably noticed, the 45th and 47th president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has passed a flurry of executive orders, signing the most ever on a president’s first day. Let’s go over some of the most important and some of the most controversial of them all. Please note that some have been blocked and/or delayed in their implementation.
“Putting America First in international environmental agreements”
The title is a mask for withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement and canceling any deal with the UN over clean energy.
“Withdrawing from the WHO”
As this implies, Trump declared that the United States has left the World Health Organization. This is horrible for us, as quite literally every country was in it. Now it’s all but us.
“Declaring a national emergency at the southern border”
This would allow the military to deploy even more soldiers there.
“Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship”
This executive order seeks to end birthright citizenship and appears to violate the Constitution, but it was blocked by many judges.
“Restoring the Death penalty”
Once more, just as the title says, it would basically tell the DOJ to seek the death penalty more frequently, even though it is incredibly unpopular among prosecutors.
“Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing”
This seeked to end DEI, which made government agencies seek out people with disabilities, people of different racial backgrounds, people of different genders, and so forth.
“Keeping Americans safe in Aviation”
It ended all DEI initiatives in the Department of Transportation and the FAA, even thought these agencies, especially the FAA, was experiencing understaffing.
“The Iron Dome for America”
This executive order would attempt to create a replica of Israel’s Iron Dome but for America, even though U.S. security needs are different, and we don’t have missiles raining down on us 24/7.
“Expanding Migrant Operations Center at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to Full Capacity”
Guantanamo Bay is a known CIA blacksite that typically contains political detainees and high security detainees. In the past, Guantanamo has faced allegations of torture. This has since been canceled.
“President Donald J. Trump Imposes Tariffs on Imports from Canada, Mexico and China”
This executive order would impose a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico along with 10% tariff on China, which would significantly hit our economy and the price of everyday items. The implementation of these tariffs was delayed for a month as Canada and Mexico negotiated, but that extra time has almost run out.
“Withdrawing the United States from and Ending Funding to Certain United Nations Organizations and Reviewing United States Support to All International Organizations”
This one is possibly the most disgusting of all the executive orders. It would withdraw the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council, along with the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
