Most American families has a fuzzy companion in their home, the most popular being a dog. They get their pets from the pound, breeders, or even the street. Who can resist a cute, helpless puppy who only wants love? If only we could have a conversation with them, expressing how much we love them and vice versa.
Actually, we can. We can’t all be Snow White, having random animals flock to us, but we can understand dogs’ body language and determine what they are feeling or trying to say. According to Pure Pet Food, happy dogs will have “their tail down and relaxed, unless of course, it’s wagging which is a good indication any dog is happy.” This is a popular indicator of happiness, but there are many other emotions that a dog can feel. For example, if there is a faint crash late at night, your dog may become alert, their “ears being forward and they may twitch if they’re trying to listen out for a specific sound.” They will also stand up straight, listening for anything to find that sound.
To add, some dog owners even use talking buttons to get their dogs to basically “talk” with their owners. According to UC San Diego Today, “These buttons have taken the pet world by storm, leading to impressive and sometimes seemingly miraculous feats.” This idea first started trending on TikTok, from which it spread around the world in a matter of days. This tool can be a fun party trick, but it also helps owners feel more connected with their companions. The dogs are able to press buttons that respond to their owners’ questions. There is at least some evidence that the dogs may understand what humans ask them.
Overall, we love our furry friends so much that we deserve to know and understand what they’re trying to tell us. Every day, we show them love, giving them food and a roof over their heads, which alleviates the whole ordeal of survival. Basically, we love and care for them. We just want to know what they feel.
