This week, I invited some students from the OFHS Dance Team to speak with me. I wanted to see how their 2024 season has been going so far. To these students, dance is more than just a hobby. It’s a second family.
The first person who I interviewed was Emily Rafael. She said that the 2024 dance season has been great; she can’t wait for the upcoming season. The second person who I spoke with was Shamira Hill. She says that the 2024 dance season has been amazing. She loves all of the new friends who she has made. This is a team where students work hard to prepare to be champions again. Shamira had never danced before in her life. When she started last year, she loved it. She never knew what was involved in Dance until she joined. Dance is the best team that she has been on. If you want to be in athletics or clubs or just involved more generally, Hill said, try something new, get out of your comfort zone, and meet new people. Find new hobbies and be a part of the Bengal Nation. (I could not have said it any better myself.)
Another person who I interviewed, Madison, just came back from an injury and right in time for Friday’s Homecoming game. Madison is not afraid to help others. She has been dancing her whole life. Madison said that her dance season has been amazing. Yes, it has been a little tough being the only freshman on the varsity team. It’s also been hard switching from a studio to a new style of dance. Other than that, she has made a lot of new friends and improved herself. The last person who I interviewed was Jalen. He said that his 2024 season is going well so far. He also told me that he is working on his skills to make Varsity dance for the competitive season. Jalen has all of the skills to make it.
If you could see these Oak Forest High School dancers, you would see that Dance is central to their lives. They put their hearts and their souls into their sport every day. They’re here Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and sometimes even over the weekend. These students work hard, so please take some time out of your own busy weeks, and go see Oak Forest High School’s Dance Team. If you see Dance, you’ll also be able to watch Cheer and the football team.
