This year’s Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday, November 23. Thanksgiving is a holiday people celebrate to give thanks, worship, and blessings. Thanksgiving came about in 1621 when the English settlers of Plymouth Colony and the Native American Wampanoag tribe shared a fall feast known as Thanksgiving. The holiday spread from New England, and the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, acknowledged it as a holiday every November.
Thanksgiving can be celebrated in a number of ways: telling family or friends what we’re thankful for or giving back to those who are needful, hungry, or homeless. Overall, Thanksgiving is a holiday that people should be thankful for because this is the only day someone can feel a little acknowledged and hopeful for something positive to happen in the future. Plus, on Thanksgiving, there are always second helpings of food.
Every Thanksgiving, my family and I gather together and pray for the food that we eat; we give thanks for everything that we are grateful for, such as clothes, a roof over our heads, food, family, and friends. Then there’s the dinner. I’ll tell you what I’m going to have this year. Since it’s popular in many families’ Thanksgiving dinner, we are going to have turkey, chicken, ham, rice, and cranberry sauce (my favorite!). One year we actually had elotes, which is a Mexican dish consisting of corn, mayonnaise, lime, chili powder, cotija cheese and cilantro. My mother makes the best elotes in the world, and I couldn’t ask for anything more for Thanksgiving.
I wanted to take the time to write down what I am thankful for this year. This year, I am thankful for a number of things. I am thankful for my family and the time I spend with them. I am thankful for my friends, wonderful and amazing teachers who inspire me every day to be one, passing the Constitution test, the clothes I wear, the food I eat, my coaches in sports and clubs, being the manager of the softball and football team, the environment that I put myself in with lots of friends, and recognition around the school for being who I am. I am also thankful for the peace that we have because some countries are now at war. I hope that we all come back together as one and make peace all around the world. We only live once and don’t want to waste the time that we have left in our lives, which I am also thankful for. I could write down a million more things for which I am grateful, but that would be a long list.
Now, it’s your turn! Go down to the comments section and write down what’s on the Thanksgiving menu and what you’re thankful for this year. I’m hoping to see a lot of responses. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, at the Pazik household, we ate turkey, homemade stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatos and gravy and pumkin pie for dessert. We will definitely have seconds and thirds over this weekend. What am I thankful for? I am thankful that everyday I wake up and see the sunshine, I get to see my beautiful wife and children. I am also thankful for an opportunity to work with so many amazing teachers and support staff. What keeps me engaged in the classroom are the students. I am thankfull for their desire to learn and create music which makes the work place come alive. Lastly, I am thankful for family and friends. Even though we may not talk every day, the support and love is always a moment away. Happy Thanksgiving Nick!

I’m not sure what I will eat since my family is going to Cooper’s Hawk for dinner on Thanksgiving Day. They have really great food though so I am looking forward to it! I love the traditional Thanksgiving food such as turkey, stuffing, squash, mashed potatoes, green beans, and DON’T GET ME STARTED on desserts! After reading these comments to this article, my main feeling is gratitude for the students at this school. You are seriously the nicest people that I have the joy to work with on a daily basis. I would also like to say that I am so thankful for my family: my husband Phil, my daughter Jackie, and my son Evan. The kids are home from college and we play games and go places like Chicago and all over with them while they’re home. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and recharges for December!
Abby Bronske • Nov 21, 2023 at 1:45 pm
On thanksgiving I spend it at my grandparents house with my brother, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle and many of cousins. We make the traditional dry Turkey with no flavor and all of the sides that I fill my plate up with to avoid the Turkey. I’m very thankful that I have a job, that I have a loving family, an amazing boyfriend and many friends. My favorite part of thanksgiving is sitting on the couch with everyone watching football and eating pie.

One thing I’m thankful for is the life I’m living. It may not seem like it but throughout the world it’s not very common to live the life I am. We have a roof over our heads, food on the table, beds to sleep in, running water, heat, electricity and countless other things for our entertainment. And most important we have a strong family that loves each other (sometimes) and will persist that way for as long as we live.
