This year’s Homecoming week (September 18-23) was filled with much fun, many games, a lot of dressing up, and activities. Students enjoyed doing fun challenges around school, and most of the students attended the Homecoming football game against Lemont High School.
The whole week was as follows:
Monday: Heroes vs. Villains Day (dress up as your favorite hero or villain)
- The challenge/activity on Monday was for all Bengals to compete in a Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge to win a bead necklace. Not only could students play but teachers and staff as well. The seniors took the win for the most bead necklaces collected. Students also had to vote for which staff member rocked the best hero versus villain outfits. Oak Forest High School was filled with a bunch of villains and heroes.
Tuesday: Golf Day (dress up as a golfer/wear a polo shirt and some khakis pants/shorts)
- The challenge/activity on Tuesday was to find 20 hidden QR codes and scan them into the 5Star app. Whichever class got more points won the challenge. Students also had to vote on which teacher had the best golfing outfit.
Wednesday: Beach Day (dress up like you’re going to the beach)
- The challenge/activity on Wednesday was hall decorations. Whichever class had the best decorations for Homecoming week won. Many people were dressed up in their beach outfits and made Oak Forest High School feel like Hawaii.
Thursday: Barbie vs. Oppenheimer Day (dress up in Barbie outfits or Oppenheimer outfits)
- The challenge/activity on Wednesday was to find hidden stars around the school, and whichever class found the most stars wins the challenge. Oak Forest High School students and staff dressed up in pink and/or black and made the school look pink and bright like the OFHS spirit.
Friday: Black or Gold Day (dress up in any OFHS spirit wear)
- The challenge/activity on Friday was to win all sorts of events at the school assembly. The junior class took the win.
How Friday went down:
Classes were 10 minutes shorter than the regular schedule, and students were all dismissed at 1:30 on to the Bengal Stadium bleachers. Those who were in the parade that also happened were dismissed after 6th period and attended the parade. The parade was filled with a lot of Oak Forest school spirit. Many people who were in clubs and sports were in the parade. We got to see kids, families, and teachers from all around Oak Forest. After the parade, Oak Forest High School hosted its annual Homecoming assembly, and there were many activities. There was Tug o War, Duck Race, Bengal Royalty, the Guy Poms performance, Girls Dance and Cheerleading performances and much more. Later that day, the Oak Forest Varsity and JV Football teams had their Homecoming games against Lemont High School. Unfortunately, the Varsity Bengals suffered a huge loss, 51-14, and JV lost 17-16. Nonetheless, the Bengal spirit was still in the air.
Saturday: HOCO 23!
On Saturday, September 23, 2023, Oak Forest High School hosted its annual Homecoming Dance, which ran from 6-9. The theme of Homecoming this year was LIGHTS… CAMERA… HOMECOMING. BOOM Entertainment took the stage, DJ’d the Homecoming dance, and made it seem as if it were a concert. There was a lot of music, food, and dancing, of course. All in all, Homecoming Week was pretty fun for all of our students here at Oak Forest High School. Now we can look forward to Turnabout 2024.
